Counting down the days to our favorite European indoor festival, the Rocking.gr team continues its tribute to the performances we are most looking forward to seeing on the second day of it. Among the very special up-and-coming names of the scene that will appear, including Gnod, Genital Shame, Pygmy Lush, Stress Positions, as well as second appearances of names that we already mentioned in the previous version of this tribute, you will find below all the appearances that stand out a little more for us.
1
Messa performing "The Spin" (15:20 - 16:20, Main Stage)

We've said it before and we've said it again. Do we need to go at it one more time? Oh well. Messa have rightfully earned a place among the most noteworthy bands in the wider contemporary metal scene. Their music is as strong as it is tasteful. The way they bring doomy sounds from the past, to today is full of personality. Their dark soundscapes are pure delight. We had the luck to experience that firsthand in 2019 and 2022. With the brand new album "The Spin" in their luggage, everything seems ready so that the Italians blacken the Main Stage once again.
2
CHVE (16:20 - 17:00, Next Stage)

The driving force and voice of Amenra will appear twice at this year's festival, but not with his "main" band, much to the disappointment of those who held out hope for a comeback after their brief stint at Redux a few years ago. With two back-to-back sets, the first as De Mannen Broeders with Broeder Dieleman and then solo as CHVE, the Next Stage is expected to be at full capacity from 15:00 and remain so for the next couple hours. In our books, Colin H. Van Eeckhout's personal experimentation wins out over the informal comparison, although odds are that we too will be lining up early.
3
The HIRS Collective (16:30 - 17:10, The Terminal)

The arrival of the chameleonic queer punk collective from Philadelphia at Roadburn 2025 is one of the most significant additions to the festival's lineup. This multifaceted and ever-evolving group is not just one of the most vital political forces in the broader (extreme) hardcore scene but, thanks to their modus operandi and holistic artistic vision, a totemic presence in the modern underground. Their two albums, "Friends. Lovers. Favorites" (2018) and "We're Still Here" (2023), are staggering, multi-layered releases, sharp as their message. The HIRS Collective is a band that continuously redefines its sound while wielding art as a political weapon. Their long-awaited Roadburn debut may have taken its time, but now, it simply can't be missed.
4
Envy modern set (17.10-18-10, Main Stage)

The band from the land of the rising sun, which has stood out with its atmospheres in the emotionally heavy space of post-hardcore, will have its own glamour in the spaces of Roadburn. Although the day before they will present us with their older works, on Friday they come back even more forcefully to remind us what today's post-hardcore is, presenting material from their latest work "Eunoia" as well as a multitude of modern versions of their sound that has left its mark on modern music undergrounds and beyond. As befits them, on the big stage.
5
Harvestman performing "Sounds Of Triptych" (19:50-20:50, Next Stage)

Steve Von Till, formerly of Neurosis, is one of the most beloved figures of both Roadburn and the music world. As the first artist in residence for this year, he will present a large part of his diverse discography, including his personal work as well as his collaboration with Thomas Hooper. But focus on Friday's performance, where Steve Von Till will face the very intimate Next Stage to present his latest work as Harvestman. The three-part "Sounds Of Triptych" released last year is a deep, long-form psychedelic work that couldn't find a better home to present than one of Roadburn's stages.
6
Human Impact (20:30 - 21.20, The Engine Room)

Noise and Roadburn often go hand in hand, as we have seen and will see again in the future, especially in the highly industrial space of The Engine Room. It will be a pleasure to see Human Impact appear within the walls of this stage. The band, which is nothing less than a supergroup since it consists of members from the giants Unsane, Swans, Cop Shoot Cop, the ashes of Daughters, and Made Out of Babies, returned last year with the excellent "Gone Dark" and we will have the honor of hearing awesome compositions from across their entire discography at this particular performance. There is a special, deeply painful atmosphere when such sounds are combined with Engine Room, and the case of Human Impact will likely be a highlight of the day.
7
Cave In performing "Jupiter" (21:00 - 22:00, Main Stage)

This is where we can fit being fanboys and fangirls. Although old acquaintances of the festival, Cave In return to the big stage of Roadburn to present live an album in its entirety, one of those that defined the current sound of metalcore and post-hardcore. The reason, of course, is the magnificent "Jupiter" that will come to life in all its glory exactly where it belongs, logically reminding us why some names, even among such festivals, are real headliners. After Cave In's appearance two years ago where they presented their most recent data, the dive into the past that the band they are today has taken will be nothing short of exciting, while we can't promise that a tear won't flow during "In The Stream Of Commerce", when we sing "you're so lucky to be alive" and remember our late brother Caleb Scofield.
8
Angles performing "The Death Of Kalypso" (21:00 - 22:15, The Paradox)

The fact that Roadburn Festival continues to invest more and more in the Paradox side program each year, is a testament to the festival's deepening artistic vision across all fronts. One of this year's most striking performances will undoubtedly be that of the remarkable Angles. The free-jazz ensemble led by saxophonist Martin Küchen will present their stunning 2023 album, "The Death of Kalypso", in its entirety - a breathtaking experimental jazz opera that weaves strings and brass together, featuring Elle-Kari Sander delivering towering vocal performances. A descent into the mythologies of Blake, Homer, and Bosch, with a full band bringing it to life on stage, this Angles set is shaping up to be one of the festival's hidden highlights for those lucky enough to experience it.
9
Bambara (23:00 - 00:20, The Engine Room)

Although it was not a regular fixture of the festival until recently, post-punk, especially the more atmospheric and dark one, is slowly finding its place and, moreover, it suits it more than anything. The crowning glory of this new relationship that begins for this year's Roadburn Festival is the appearance of Bambara, who are constantly evolving in their contemporary scene, and prove with every step that they fully deserve this rise. .
10
Thou performing "Umbilical" (23:00 - 24:00, Main Stage)

Ahhh, Thou and Roadburn, a long-standing bond of mutual love and admiration, a union that changes lives. It was a safe bet that with a new album on their baggage, the post/sludge/everything band from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, would make their return to the Netherlands. Even more so, when that album is "Umbilical", one of the best releases of 2024, and among the greatest in the band's career. Thou will bring this crushing, redemptive, and self-critical love letter to punks and the DIY ethos to the festival's main stage, so you better expect war. Every Thou live experience is a momentous, emotionally charged, and cathartic event. And judging by the relentless energy of "Umbilical"'s compositions and the sheer intensity with which the band delivers them live, we wouldn't dare predict just how far this performance will go. But we can speculate that this won't be the band's only appearance at the festival. Right?
