«10»: Our most anticipated performances of Roadburn 2025 - part D'
The last day of Roadburn festival promises long journeys to otherworldly, dark galaxies
As always, the final day of Roadburn feels a little warmer, more like a family gathering, with experimental sets that often surpass the imagination and touch on strange worlds, always honoring its past and the bands that defined it, as well as those that were born within it. Our team selects, for one last time, the performances we eagerly anticipate more than any others at this year's Roadburn Festival and its unique Sunday - with psychedelia and emotional depth taking center stage in the vast landscape of these choices. We’ll see you there!
1
Vuur & Zijde performing "Boezem" (14:00 - 14:50, The Terminal)

One of 2024’s standout surprises in the realm of extreme metal music was the ethereal "Boezem" by Dutch band Vuur & Zijde. "Fire and Silk", as their name translates, features members from Laster, Silver Knife, Grey Aura, Terzij de Horde, and Witte Wieven - essentially a supergroup risen from the elite of the local underground scene. True to their name, Vuur & Zijde seamlessly fuse lush shoegaze, dream-pop, and post-punk textures with post-black metal intensity, channeling the legacy of 4AD Records, into cascadian, forested soundscapes that are as addictive as they are immersive. Their full performance of "Boezem" early on Sunday is a must-attend moment, likely to enchant everyone present and expand the fanbase of a band that clearly isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
2
Endon (15:40 - 16:30, The Terminal)

The Japanese band Endon is set to shake the foundations of experimental sound with their highly anticipated appearance at Roadburn Festival 2025. Known for their extreme sonic approach - a chaotic fusion of noise, metal, and avant-garde elements - Endon promises an experience that borders on psychological deconstruction and sonic catharsis. The band, famed for their intense, almost ritualistic live shows, brings to Roadburn not just music, but a visceral performance, based also on their latest album, "Fall Of Spring". Through layers of distortion, screams, and rhythmic violence, their presence is expected to stand out and reaffirm why they are considered one of the most extreme and provocative voices in today’s music scene.
3
Michael Gira & Kristoff Hahn (16:50 - 18.00, Next Stage)

Michael Gira and Kristof Hahn, two iconic figures of the Swans, reunite for a unique performance at Roadburn Festival 2025. Drawing on their long-standing collaboration, the two artists will deliver a set filled with intensity, introspection, and existential depth. Gira’s distinctive voice combined with Hahn’s hypnotic lap steel guitar promises an experience that balances darkness and redemption. This stripped-down version of the Swans’ sound reveals the core of their music: raw emotional power and an underlying spirituality. It’s a rare and captivating performance, not to be missed by anyone seeking the essence behind the sound.
4
Midwife (17:20 - 18:10, The Terminal)

As artist in residence, Madeline Johnston is expected to perform three times during the festival, all at the glorious Terminal. On Friday 18/04, Vyva Melinkolya and she will play their collaborative album "Orbweaving". A day later, accompanied by a band, there will be a presentation of last year's beautiful LP "No Depression In Heaven". Sunday's set, in proper afterburn fashion, will be dedicated to the past. Among equals, the lot falls on the latter due to the open context, and in all honesty because of the small-but-never-empty possibility of hearing a very specific cover.
5
Sumac perform "The Healer" (18:00 - 19.20, Main Stage)

Sumac, the powerful trio consisting of Aaron Turner, Brian Cook, and Nick Yacyshyn, return to Roadburn Festival 2025 for a performance that promises to be explosive and disarmingly honest. With roots in post-metal and a constant drive for experimentation, Sumac break all conventions, treating sound as a living, raw process. Their live shows resemble rituals-and this time, the weight of the moment will be even greater, as they present their new album, "The Healer", in its entirety. At Roadburn, the band will unfold their vision unfiltered, offering an immersive experience that balances violence and reflection, chaos and catharsis.
6
Big Brave (19:20 - 20:10, The Terminal)

With a steady step and eyes always set on the future, for about a decade now the Montreal band has rightfully established itself as one of the strongest cards in the dark, noisy scene. Their return to Tilburg soil will find them completing a year since the release of "A Chaos Of Flowers", and unsurprisingly their set will be dedicated to it. Would we like something additional, focused on past works? Absolutely! Would we hope for a surprise? Maybe. Will we be seated in any case? Absolutely!
7
Violent Magic Orchestra (21:20 - 22:10, The Terminal)

"Death Rave", last year’s album by Violent Magic Orchestra, was one of the wildest, even hottest releases in the realm of contemporary extreme music. The Japanese outfit blends majestic black metal, electronic music, and hyperpop in a way that feels both unhinged and surgically intentional. Returning to Roadburn Festival after seven years, the band promises a live show that merges their homeland’s rich avant-garde and noise heritage with the crushing force of Thorns-like black metal. Truth be told, the scale may tip more toward techno/rave chainsaws, but you can’t hold that against them, this is pure sensory overload. On Sunday night in Tilburg, as the first waves of after-burn melancholy begin to ripple through the crowd, one of the final sets of the festival is shaping up to be gloriously psychotropic.
8
Gott (21:40 - 22:30, Hall Of Fame)

Funny how life works out. Gott, the supergroup set to perform their stunning debut EP "To Hell To Zion" at Roadburn 2022, never made it-cancellation struck, and the project was shelved. But now, the new artistic vessel of Farida "The Mouth of Satan" Lemouchi (The Devil’s Blood, Molasses) is back on the move, with new music on the way and a legacy to reclaim in the underground. Even just for the occult rock echoes of "The Colour Empty" or that mind-blowing cover of Fleetwood Mac’s "The Chain", featuring members of In Solitude, there are a thousand(fold) reasons to pack into the Hall of Fame. For the past. For the legacy. For the darkness, the resurrection, the elegy. For that voice.
9
Pothamus present "Abhur" (22:00 - 23:00, Next Stage)

Pothamus, the atmospheric trio from Belgium and a powerful force on Pelagic Records, return to Roadburn Festival 2025 with a special purpose: to perform their new album, "Abhur", live in its entirety. This latest release delves even deeper into their spiritual and sonic explorations. With their signature blend of post-metal, ambient, and ritualistic drone, Pothamus craft multilayered compositions that fuse repetition, chant-like vocals, and explosive intensity. Abhur, darker and more introspective than ever, will unfold before the Roadburn audience in a performance that promises to be both immersive and emotionally charged-an experience as profoundly moving as it is crushingly heavy.
10
Haunted Plasma (22:30 - 23:20, Main Stage)

Haunted Plasma, born in Roadburn Redux, the powerhouse of futuristic synth fused with the violent atmospherics of "cosmic" black metal, will bring their groundbreaking sound to Roadburn Festival 2025. Following the release of their debut album "I" in May 2024 via Svart Records, the band has already made waves with their bold mix of cybernetic dystopia, psychedelic black metal, and hypnotic Krautrock. Featuring members from Oranssi Pazuzu, K-X-P, Grave Pleasures, and Aavikko, Haunted Plasma’s sound is a unique, boundary-pushing blend of radical compositions and heavy, electrifying rhythms. At Roadburn, they’ll take the audience on an interdimensional journey, with their distorted synths, relentless rhythms, and dystopian vocals creating an unforgettable, otherworldly performance that will leave a lasting impression while Roadburn Festival slowly draws to an end.
