BRIAN VOLL TRIO
The new performance for this newly formed trio.
They will play some of Brian's original compositions as well as some well known jazz standards.
The trio is a collaboration of three musicians who all share a love for jazz music. Having studied in New York, Athens and Paris with some of the top cats in the jazz scene, Seraphim Bellos has developed a great understanding of the essence of the music. He brings this to the trio as his drumming provides simultaneously a rock-solid foundation and a brilliant sense of synthesis and development. Ilias Karkavelias comes from a musical family yet aside from studying and playing music with his brothers, he is affiliated in many other local projects and studies with the greatest of the local bassists: Periklis Trivolis and Paraskevis Kitsos. He supplies the trio with fresh, thoughtful basslines and impeccable time well suited for the many arrangements of jazz standards the trio performs. Growing up in Canada, Brian Voll had been immersed in jazz music his whole life. Apart from being very comfortable with the many traditions and stylings of jazz piano, Brian also brings to the trio an interest in more contemporary music compelling the trio to explore new rhythms and harmonies through improvisation. Original material provides a wonderful window for this exploration and at the same time exhibits the classical, jazz, Middle Eastern, African and Latin influences that make this trio truly unique.
